Body Shape Questions & Answers

Question #1: How many calories should I eat to lose weight?

I'm 5'9 & weigh about 170 pounds. I'd like to lose 20-25 pounds & I've been running/power walking on the treadmill. I burn 500-800 calories. How long do you think it'd take me to lose the weight? before the year is over? & how much should I eat.

Thanks

Question #2: Is this a good work out?

Ok, I went at the speed of 3.6 mph for 32:16 min. burned 131 calories and went the distance of 1.82 miles all on a treadmill. Is that a good work out to do daily?

Other info: My heart rate was an average of 150-160
I'm 15 year old 5'8" female.

Thanks!

Question #3: Running and building muscle...?

I'm planning on joining the Marine Corps. after high school. Right now, I'm only a junior and right now I'm more focused on school and getting myself physically fit by next year.

I'm 165lbs, 5' 10".
23% Body Fat

My brother, who is going to help me weight train, told me that I should just weight train because it converts my current fat to muscle, and it'll be less work than burning off all the fat, then building up muscle.

I also wanted to work on my running because my goal by November is to run 3 miles straight without stopping, under 20 minutes. BUT I heard that running burns muscles?

How should I balance all of this out?

(My current plan was to use up my gym time at school by running on a treadmill 20 minutes a day, then adding 5 min every other day. Then come home, work on P90x and situps/pushups, then homework, then go to the gym at night with my brother to weight train)

Question #4: Anyone else ever torn their ankle ligaments but STILL manage to lead a fully functional life after the inury?

do you still manage to lead a normal, fully functional life after the injury / operation ?

im 32 years old and last year , mid last year , my left ankle was operated on the fix torn ligaments in my left ankle, i was in plaster for weeks , then i went to the NHS ! physio and she gave me a list of exercises on a sheet of paper to do at home for my ankle .

but i live in a one bedroomed flat on sick pay , im quite poor dont get very much , and i DONT own much possessions in my flat except my computer , so i didnt have much furniture to practice the tedious exercises with , ie ( to tie the elastic band to to do the exercises with )

so instead , months ago , i joined a gym near me and just went there to do swimming and the cross trainer , sometimes the treadmill.

hopefully my ankle will get stronger in time..

just wondered did anybody have have the same injury but still go on to have a fully functional life afterwards ?

Question #5: Gym beginner. Need advice.?

Okay so I am a newb at the gym. I am a big guy, and I want to remove my unwanted fat before I hit 21. I am 20 btw. I do not need the weight lifting routine for the mean time. I just want a good cardio because I cannot run for about a minute without almost dying.

This morning what I did was: (alternating speeds)
7miles in the stationary bicycle
1 mile on the treadmill
This took me about 1 hour because I cannot do it in a very fast pace.

I go to the gym at around 7am in morning.

What is a good routine involving the stationary bicycle and treadmill. I heard that low intensity burns more fat. Should I got with 5miles on bike and 5miles on the treadmill. I have no idea how these affect my weight but I need to lose a lot in my mid section.

Also, since this is in the morning, should I eat some pre-workout food? Before I went to the gym, I ate 2 granola bar 100cal each. What should I eat before heading for the gym. I once tried going to the gym in the morning without breakfast = not a good idea.

Basically, I need to know a good fat burning routine that I can do in 1hour (or probably mileage counting), and pre-gym meal (i don't want to faint).

Thank you.

Question #6: Would this be good enough or to much?

So, I do Zumba 3 x a week Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays. Except one of the trainers left the (tue and thur) girl so now it's just Monday for me (wednesday is on the list but I have church which comes first.) So, there is supposed to be another trainer for those 2 days, starting on the 16th. If I do Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for Zumba, and go to the gym and do the treadmill after that, and or Friday, Saturday, Sunday would that be a good work out or am I pushing it to much?

I am 29 and Im overweight so Im trying to get in better shape, never to late to start. I also lost 2.5 pounds in the last week just by changing my diet and doing zumba once.

Rude comments will be reported.

Question #7: Why do I get itchy when I work out?

Whenever I'm on treadmill or exercise bike working out, my legs and thighs get so itchy. Why is this?

Question #8: How to train for fighting?

Hey. I'm a 13 year old boy. I want to train for fighting. I mean like a fight at school. I want to be prepared just in case I'm in a situation where I have to fight and I'm against some big punk kid. I'm about 5' 2", and about 100 pounds. I am currently lifting weights, and will start running every day. I hope to start karate (for fun), and I have a boxing reflex bag. Is there any training I can do with the boxing reflex bag, treadmill, dumbbells, and pull-up bar that I'm not already doing or planning to do? Thanks for the suggestions!

Question #9: What should I wear to my local gym.?

I have lost weight before and now I'm a little on the husky side. I would like to get back in there and get on a treadmill, but I don't feel like I could pull of gym shorts that well. Any recommendations?

Question #10: How do I let this MILF know that I'm interested in her?

I've been going to same gym for about two years, four or five times a week, usually around the night. Two out of four nights, I almost always see her. She's around her mid 40s, extremely fit. She most likely recognize me as well. I'd like to approach her.
How should I get started? We haven't talked one bit, so going up for conversation straight away would be too risky/creepy. Subtle ways like making more direct eye contacts, get noticed more by running a treadmill right next to hers, etc.
Any tips?
I will gladly leave her alone without hesitation if I find out that she's in a happy marriage, so cut me some slacks :P

Question #11: When my treadmill tells me that I've burned 300 calories....what is assumed?

Doesn't the amount of calories burned vary by size and weight?

Question #12: How do I tell my little sister to lose weight?

Good afternoon everyone!

I am in a bit of a predicament. My little sister and I are pretty close, although we only met 4 years ago. I am 21 yo, shes 16. When we first met we exchanged baby photos and everything. I noticed that as she got older, the more weight she put on. Shes a great girl. Very smart, well spoken, and has a pretty face. The thing is, she really needs to lose weight.

When we first met she commented that she felt like the "fat" sister, I assured her that all she had to do was watch her diet and work out daily, plus, at that time, she wasnt that big. Really, she was "thick".

We fell out of contact for a while and I just saw her recently, after a 2 year hiatus.

She. is. huge.

She is morbidly obese, extremely large.

I didnt even know what to say when i saw her, so i didnt say anything. I am so pissed about this because its obvious that she doesnt like her body; shes always talking about how much she hates her body. But for some reason, no one will sit her down and tell her to shape up. I hate to place blame, but ill do it anyway. Its her mothers fault. Her mother is, herself, morbidly obese - about 400lbs at 5'3''. Instead of making sure her daughter doesnt follow down the same unhealthy path, she stocks the fridge with sodas, pies and fried chicken.

Her mother once told me a story about how she would give my sister PIGS FEET at 9 months old. When I heard that I wanted to slap her in the face. Why would you do that to your own child? Its not even the fact that it tastes terrible, but pigs feet is 99.9% pure fat! Its like she crippled my sister before she even had a chance.

My sister has never had a boyfriend, never had a date, and generally feels like s.hit all the time. Her personality is stellar, and her face is to die for, but you know how boys that age are, they dont even look her way. It really gets to her self esteem. Also, she has asthma. Now, Its blatantly obvious to me (a medical student) that weight loss would damn near cure my sisters "asthma" (her personal situation - not a blanket statement). But if you leave it to her mother to tell, she cant so much as step on a treadmill before having an aneurysm. Her mother cripples her into thinking she is this sickly creature.

Once while spending the night, her mother woke me in the middle of the night to tell me my sister had a fever. A fever, that is, of 101.0. I assured her that the body's average temperature is 98.6. She then assured ME that my sisters AVERAGE temp is usualy 97.0. I told her that even then there would only be a 4 degree difference. On a (then) 14 year old girl, she was perfectly fine.

Apparently I didnt know what the hell I was talking about, because she took her to the ER that same night. For a temp of 101.0. The doctors never even saw them - the nurses told them to go home, and return if it got worse.

You see what Im up against? I cant stand that kind of babying.

Her mother tells her that she should just be happy with her body the way she is, and she should be. But at some point the rose colored shades have got to come off. She is currently 5'6'', 275lbs. Its just not healthy, and if no one else is gonna tell, I guess its gonna have to be me.

Now if you cant already tell, I dont sugar my thoughts. I just got out of the army and am still getting used to not being so "blunt" about my thoughts. How do I tell her to put the cinnabon down and strap on an ankle-weight?

ps - I love to work out and wouldnt mind helping her get her diet on track, and showing her around the gym.
Thanks
